Why is the use of the electoral college called an indirect method for electing the president?

    The Electoral College is a process whereby people don't directly vote for the President of the United States but instead of them physically or directly voting they select specific individuals. These selected individuals or panel will be pledged on to vote for a particular candidate.

    A direct method will however be when people physically go and cast their own votes however the U. S citizens have a selected panel that they vote for which goes and cast the votes for them to select the president.
