    A result of the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in the Ukraine was that the drinking water was unsafe for a long time. Due to the nuclear disaster the surrounding area became heavily radiated including the forests, the air, the ground and the water making the area uninhabitable as it wasn't safe. People and animals got very sick and died from radiation poisoning.
