Tenochtitlan was a very developed city. With advanced developments for agriculture, (forgot what they're called but basically they creating floating land on the water). Their society was started up on a swampy and rather low quality piece of land they were forced onto and the Mexica used the land to make a thriving agricultural and stable society. The Europeans were amazed at the sight of this developed city and wanted the land and resources. If it weren't for their advanced weapons, the Europeans wouldn't have won so easily.
