I believe the answer is: a mix of Type I (positive symptoms, neurotransmitters responsible) and Type II (negative symptoms, brain abnormalities)

Type I and Type II valuation is conducted by comparing the characteristic / behavior of the patient with the characteristic/behavior that displayed by normal people.

A person would be identified to have negative symptoms if the symptoms could exist in normal individual (such as poverty of speech) and would be identified to have positive symptoms if the symptoms do not typically exist in normal individuals (such as auditory hallucinations)
