    Two things come to my mind,

    The first is humus: the entirety of the organic material in soil, which is rather heterogeneous and amorphous (doesn't have clear shapes). It contains the decomposing organic material, but in which the parts of animals and plats are not visible.

    the second is the part where the part of animals and plants are sill visible; this is called decomposing organic matter.
