Judicial activism is when a judge (or judges) makes a court ruling based on personal opinion, rather than the actual written law. The Supreme Court case of Bush v. Gore is an example. Th e judges voted by 5 to 4 to stop recounting of ballots in Florida. So George Bush was declared winner of the presidential elected in 2000.
