How did the widespread belief in a true woman's special moral vocation affect women's lives?

This could be the moral belief that a woman's place was in the home caring for her children/having more children and doing the housework to support her man and this belief could oppress many women who wish to fulfil themselves by developing their minds and creativity as most women do.
