The continental system was meant to create a blockade for British trade

    Explanation:

According to this continental system, ships arrival from Britain were not permitted to enter the ports which were controlled by the French. By doing so, colonial goods could take a hit. Although there was some damage being done to the British economy, exports dropped drastically from 55% to 25%.

The continental system created by Napoleon I to damage the British trade. This was done after Britain blocked the French navy from functioning in the French coast. This system was implemented through the Berlin Decree in 1806.

Napoleon wanted to hobble the British economy and give France a chance to build up its own manufacturing and industry. The Continental System began in 1806 with Napoleon's Berlin Decree, which banned British ships from entering European ports.
