African Americans wanted and were fighting to have the same rights as white people. Music and singing gave the people a voice during the Civil Rights movement.

Music and singing gave the people a voice during the Civil Rights movement ... Songs, such as, "We shall not be moved" were sung in meetings, on the streets, or while someone is getting dragged to jail. These songs gave the people a sense that they had a type of power that they could not describe. Mar 28, 2013
