It is false that the expression "the scramble for Africa" is used to describe the postcolonial power struggles on the African continent. The expression is used to describe an earlier time, before independence.

    Explanation:

The term "The Scramble for Africa" refers to the way the European powers partitioned the different colonies on the African continent among themselves, in the period of time historians call the New Imperialism (occurring between 1881 and ending with the outbreak of WWI). The European countries invaded and occupied many African countries during this time. The colonizers were motivated to seek out new territories in Africa because of the valuable resources available throughout the continent, religious missionary work, and tensions that arose between the European powers as they maneuvered to get more allies and support. The European powers moved from influencing African countries through informal means like economic dominance, to direct rule by officially colonizing countries (Shillington, 2005).
