Sociologists argue that people learn to "do gender" most profoundly in the family, and that it is within this arena that gender is useful in describing how groups of people actively create boundaries and tasks. Gender roles are huge within society but you see more of those roles come out when they are at home. For instance, the men are typically the "strong" ones who do the heavy lifting, the outdoor work and anything else that requires strength. The women typically are the nurturers and are taking care of the home, children and putting food on the table.
