The Platt Amendment of 1901 forbade Cuba from entering into any treaties that would allow undue foreign involvement in Cuban affairs. This law was passed after the Spanish-American War to make sure that European nations weren't going to get involved with Cuba.

    2. US leaders didn't want powerful European nations to have influence so close to the United States.

    US leaders wanted to have the influence in terms of trade and Latin American affairs.

    1. The Platt Amendment would likely be seen as ironic as Cuba was not vulnerable to European nations as much as it was vulnerable to America's new desire to become an imperial nation itself.

    2. The United States likely would not European influence in Cuba as the United States wanted to influence Cuba.
