The U. S Constitution is the supreme law of our nation. The Constitution of the United States was created in 1787 and ratified in 1789. Its main goal was to establish the basic rights of its citizens. The constitution created a government that consists of 3 branches (legislative, executive and judiciary), established a system of checks and balances, and divided the power between the federal government and the 50 states. However, it says very little about state power. Many people believe that the states should have more powers to decide on taxes, the economy, and moral decisions.
