The Franks first converted to Christianity under the ruler Clovis I. While he was not the first Frankish king, Clovis I was the kingdom's political and religious founder. He was the son of Childeric, the pagan Frankish king which he succeeded in 481 as the ruler of the Salian Franks and other Frankish groups around which is now Belgium.
