Jacob burckhardt belived that the renaissance was an emergence when people began thinking scientificaly and mathematicaly and when religon saw set aside. While burke thought the complete opposite that the catholic church was still a massive part of laypeople and scholard lives. Yes the Rennaisane is a distinct period. It is a transition fom the midieval to modern world.
