    The rebirth of learning was as a result of the Renaissance and many new ideas were born from this time. The first was the designs of larger sailing ships and navigational instruments. Leonardo Da Vinci was instrumental in this as he was the engineer who pioneered designs like the submarine and the flying machines. The renaissance saw an increased in the quest for education and girls from noble homes began to receive education. As a result of this, there was a great need for more books and the idea of using movable metal type for book printing pioneered by Johannes Gutenberg.
