How did the loyalist and patriots get their name

    The loyalists received this name because they were loyal to the British Government. They were called "Tories". The patriots were considered Patriotic

    The loyalists received this name because they were loyal to the British Government. They were also called "Tories". The patriots were considered Patriotic to their new country, but not to Britain.
