A social system is set of organizational unit of individuals, institutions or groups that have similar functions, characteristics or origin. It comprise of elements such as common interests, origins, values, etc that attribute into a wholesome unit.

It may also be understood as an association of individuals interacting with each other to achieve common cultural norms and motives.

The individuals that live within a particular social system have the tendency to become susceptible to the norms of the system. For instance, if a social system of a particular society emphasizes on basic public etiquette, an individual of that society may tend to follow such etiquette everywhere.

It also affects mental and emotional behavior of an individual. Social systems that emphasize on religious ethics may affect an individual's mental and emotional behavior in a different way than that of an atheistic society.
