The Allied troops are able to defeat the German advance at the Battle of the Bulge by putting up enough strong resistance that can delay and totally stop the Germans to reach the fuel depot. The Germans ran out of fuel so they couldn't proceed to their destination; Port of Antwerp. It was either surrender or be surrounded for the Germans.
