The Island of Rhodes or Sun Island is the longest of the archipelago of Dodecanese, it is one of the seven wonders of the world of Greece, and the original Colossus was built for gratitude the victories to sun god "Helios". It was destroyed by an earthquake and lasted 60 years. Then the Statue of Liberty was built 2,000 after with an incredible similarity.

The Colossus of Rhodes was built with abandoned military equipment from a failed siege attempt against the Rhodians, they sold all the material and used the money to erect a statue of their sun god Helios. The city of Rhodes was a maritime commercial center, since their strategic placement in the Mediterranean made them a great trade spot.
