What did colonial woman and free African Americans have in common?

    After the civil war neither groups were allowed to vote. African Americans were granted voting rights in 1965 by the 15th amendment, which stated that any American citizen (men) could vote regardless of race or social status. Women were granted voting rights in 1920 by the 19th amendment.
