The correct answer is: The amount of damage that results from an earthquake depends o its intensity and duration, the type of ground on which the structures are built, and the design of the structure. That is why, in cities that are prone to Earthquakes such as Santiago de Chile, most of the buildings and constructions made in the city, have to be designed to be Earthquake proof. This is not to say that they would not be affected in any way in case of an Earthquake, but if they are designed properly, they will be safer in case of an Earthquake.
