The parents of a 2-year-old arrive at a hospital to visit their child. The child is in the playroom when the parents arrive. When the parents enter the playroom, the child does not readily approach the parents. Which is the correct interpretation of the behavior?

    Because they are not being surrounded by their parents and dealing with the day to day life things that parents do, such as feeding and changing them, they do not see their parents as significant. Two year olds need to be familiar with someone in order to trust them, and if they are not near their parents a lot, they will be hesitant.
