According to Buddhist tradition, Prince Siddartha Guatama passed four sights that later influenced the development of Buddhism. His father had been warned by a fortune teller that his son would abandon his desires if he left the palace and saw suffering. When Prince Guatama left the palace he came into contact with an old man, an ill person, a dead person and a hermit.
