they wanted to give more power to the people and less to the government

Explanation:

The colonist's were treated very differently from those at home. Britain would claim that the soldiers that were sent, were there in order to protect the colonists but instead the colonists were charged a special tax, and had to host the troops as well as follow all of their demands. Therefore from this experience they wanted to give more power to the people and less to the government when changing the constitution.
