The correct answer is C. William and his fleet had to cross the English Channel to engage Harold's forces at Hastings. This happened in 1066 and led to the fall of the Anglo-Saxon hegemony over the British isles. Following that battle, Normans started ruling the Isles which is why there is a huge amount of words in English language coming from Latin and Old French.
