The perspective, frame of reference and personality of the counsellor will greatly impact the success of the therapy. Moreover, this is extremely relevant to the therapeutic context.

First of all, the right frame of reference will convey empathy. This means that the person will feel that they are understood, and this will give them the necessary sense of security so that they are able to talk about their difficulties. A counsellor that is able to do this will demonstrate that he listens to the words of the client carefully and that he does not judge him. Such a therapist will clarify his understanding through questions, show patience and put his own frame of reference aside. A therapist that is unable to do so will make the client feel judged or criticized, and will make the therapeutic process much more difficult.
