    The statement is true.

    Explanation:

Japan is a country whose geography is very problematic when it comes to availability of natural resources, on land that is. In fact, Japan is very poor with natural resources on its territory. Being an island nation though, has enabled this country to exploit the ocean and its natural resources.

Unlike the majority of the countries, Japan heavily relies on the ocean and what it has to offer. That can be seen in many aspects of the Japanese economy and the Japanese lifestyle. The trade, electric power, cuisine etc. all depend on the ocean, and being a highly advanced nation, Japan uses it to the max.
