Vincent is a brilliant but impoverished artist. He spends all day pushing the boundaries of his art, and finds complete satisfaction in his achievements, but he has little to eat and lives in squalor. His wife has left him and most of his friends keep their distance because they do not understand his art. Why would Vincent's life be problematic for Maslow's need hierarchy?

Lower needs must be met before higher needs.

    Explanation:

Maslow's hierarchy of need is divided into five levels.

    1. Self Actualization

    2. Esteem

    3. Love and Belonging

    4. Safety

    5. physiological needs

The reason why Lower needs must be met before higher needs is because The lowest consist of the things that is directly threaten your life if not being fulfilled. Physiological needs include things such as food, drinks, and shelter. People could live without self-actualization, but they definitely couldn't live without their physiological needs. This is why they tend to focus on fulfilling the lower levels before moving up to the higher level.
