    It was important that they rebelled so they could wouldn't be taxed. Many farmers didn't have the money, in general, and by taxing them they went into debt worse than they already were. During this time, 1886-87, there were bad droughts, an economic depression and high taxes, which caused these farmers to lose their farms.
