Sir Walter Raleigh (1552 or 1554 - 1618) was granted a royal patent to explore Virginia to pave the way for future English settlements.

John Rolfe (1585-1622) is credited with the first successful cultivation of tobacco as an export crop in the Colony of Virginia attracting more settlers, and businessmen from England.

The House of Burgesses (1642 to 1776) was the legislative body of the Colony of Virginia serving as the instrument of government along with the colonial governor and the upper-house Council of State in the General Assembly.

    Explanation:

Sir Walter Raleigh not only explored Virginia but also made it famous, familiar and attractive by his writings. He also wrote exaggeratedly about the imaginary "City of Gold" and made people believe in the legend of "El Dorado"

John Rolfe also married the daughter of Native American leader. This brought peace between the Native Americans and the English settlers. It also made tobacco cultivation and business expand rapidly.
