The way Professor Friedl explains the pervasive inequality between men and women is by comparing and studying two different cultures, the Yanomamo Indians of Venezuela and the Semai group. This cultures have different views of the role men and women played; for example, in the Yanomamo culture, the woman has much less power than the man whereas in the Semai group there are no differences. A woman in the Yanomamo tribe could very easily be beaten by her husband if, for example, she has not made him a meal when he arrives from hunting.
