Miriam sees the bus as being closer than is her car due to a depth cue called Interposition.

Interposition can be described as the phenomenon which occurs when one objects overlaps another object causing an individual to perceive depth. Interposition is more commonly termed as interference or intervention. The same phenomenon was observed by Miriam when she saw the bus as more closer to her than her car.
