    In 1970, sociologist Ryan Rist published the results of a study about the relationship between educational evaluation and socioeconomic status of children of kindergarten.

    Rist, during the study, made observations when the school teacher created three groups to place the students. At the front of the class were the fast learners and at the back of the class, the slow learners. Rist realized that social class was a predictor of the position of children in the class.
