Why can you smell a cake baking in the kitchen when you are in your bedroom?

Air is a fluid, and smells are carried through particles in the air. As with all other fluids, particles in air can spread from the source through diffusion.

When you smell the cake in the kitchen from your bedroom, the scent particles have diffused through the air to your bedroom where there was a lower density of those particles.
