What feeling do you think the Guernica stirred in the people of the time

The coverage of the bombing of Guernica was very dramatic: a lot more people were reported dead than now estimated and people believed that the city was flattened on purpose: so people were very shocked and appalled. It was also first such attack on civilian population: so people were also likely scared that it could happen to them anytime too.
