The concept of family has changed from that of a basic kinship grouping of husband, wife, and children, or a constellation of persons related by blood, marriage or adoption, to a concept that is more inclusive. Currently, the term family encompasses those constellations of two or more people who regard their relationship as family and assume the responsibilities and obligations associated with family membership.

A family may be a group of not related people who define themselves as a family because of emotional bonds.

    Explanation:

For example, it can be a poly-amorous group of unrelated people who share a household, income, and responsibilities needed to support and organize their life together.

In such a family, certain social roles can be performed by one or more individuals. Some members would take more care of running the household (for example, by cooking and cleaning) while other members would invest more time into earning income, which is needed to support the family.
