    The American Revolution took the power away from the Monarch - the English monarch - and gave it to the people: so the correct answer is that it took the power away from the kings - who at the time were claiming that they had the divine right to rule.

    It was not a revolution against the Church speficically so the answer "Religious leaders" is not correct.
