Reformation of Ottoman Empire.

Explanation:

The Reformation of the Ottoman Empire also known as Tanzimat reformation took place between 1839 to 1876 under the rule of the sultans - Abdülmecid I and Abdülaziz.

This reform movement was initiated in order to bring fundamental changes in the old system of the empire which was based on theocratic principles. It aimed to bring a new modern state system.

The Tanzimat reforms focused on establishing new institutions that would provide security of life, property, and honour to everyone in the empire irrespective of religion or race.

Emphasis on education and strong legal laws were established during this period. The first inclusive plan for state education was introduced in the empire in 1841.

However, the effort of the movement to concentrate power into one authority created a loophole in the system. All legal authority became concentrated in the hands of the sultan. As a result, Abdülaziz abused power and adopted revisionary policies. The movement also received a lot of criticisms from the traditionalists.
