    In 1977. Democratic candidate Jimmy Carter won the elections over the Republican candidate Gerald Ford, who was the president at the time. However, in 1981. Ronald Reagan, the Republican candidate, succeeded Carter as the 40th president of the United States.

    His Vice President was George H. W. Bush, who succeeded him in 1989.

    Dwight D Eisenhower was republican who served as the 34th president of the United States, from 1953 to 1961. He has first won the elections in 1952. over Democrat Adlai Stevenson, and was later reelected in 1956.

    His reputation as "do-nothing" president, as well as the poor economy and Sputnik 1 launch, has affected the majority of people to vote for Democratic candidate, John F. Kennedy, during the next election.
