When William and Mary took over the throne of England in 1688 when James abdicate why was it called the glorious revolution

    The Glorious Revolution of 1688-1689 the replaced the reigning king, James II, with the joint monarchy. Mary and her dutch Husband, William of orange. It was the keystone of the whig history of Britain. According to the whig account the revolution were bloodless and the revolution settlement established the parliament over the crown setting Britain on the path towards constitutional monarchy and parliament democracy.
