It is Spain who sponsored the Voyage of Columbus. The king and queen of Spain supported and sponsored Columbus’ voyage because they believe that the voyage may find a shorter route or other detours towards Asia region that existed. Spain has a strong and firm interest and delighted in trading with Asia. If the voyage can discover a shorter route, it can provide an advantage in trading and businesses between Spain and Asia. They also believe that there’s a possibility that Columbus might explore places that are rich in resources and minerals.
