The idea that not everything in the world revolved around the church, but more of science. From there people started to question if their beliefs about the world were correct; and people made new assumptions about the world based on that. A few examples are:
That we rotate around a sun.
That stars are made of gas.
That the earth wasn't created by a god. (This is NOT my opinion; just an example)
