A man arrested for driving under the influence must attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in accordance with a court order. He attends the meetings so as to avoid a jail sentence and a hefty fine, but not because he wants to. What do sociologists call this kind of conformity?

    As the example illustrates, the man driving under the influence is not truly regretful of his actions, he attended to the meetings and payed his fine simply because he didnt wanted to have more problems. He has no deeper feelings of regret nor he wants to change for the better, he is simply following the society's wishes, and that is what compliance is:

    "The tendency of conforming with or agreeing to the wishes of others."

    It is, in simpler words, to do something other's command me to, simply because they commanded it.
