    Commander in chief.

    Explanation:

The Constitution states that the President of the United States is a commander in chief of the armed forces. That means that the whole military is controlled by one civilian - a President. This is a cornerstone of the foundation to the United States since its beginning. That means a President can wage wars and send troopes to peace missions or defense military operations. In the times of war, his powers expand hugely, and the citizens willingly give the president a great deal of freedom to fight and win the war. But most importantly, the President's role as a Commander in chief is to preserve peace and solve all conflict by diplomacy at first. But the most powerful role is this one.
