Scatterplot uses two numeric variables for presenting the relationship between the variables. Here, the two variables selected for making a scatterplot are gender and selected major. Gender is a nominal variable whihc has only two outcomes that is male and female. On the other hand, selected major is also a nominal variable which can have more than two outcomes but there will be no specific levels between those outcomes. A scatterplot cannot be used for two nominal variables as it requires two numeric variables and therefore, scatterplot will be inappropriate to present the relationship between gender and selected major.
