When it comes to determining the age of fossils there is absolute and relative dating. Relative dating is used to determine which fossil is older, while absolute dating is used when determining the age of a particular fossil. Rocks that contain radioactive elements in it, allow scientists to determine the age of fossils using the amount of radioactivity. Carbon-nitrogen absolute dating is a method for determining the age of fossils using radioactive isotopes of these elements.
