    According to Erik Erikson, the central crisis of early adulthood is known as:

    Intimacy versus isolation

    The sixth stage of Erik Erikson's theory of psycho-social development. This occurs in persons aging 18-40 years. There is hint of idea as to what Intimacy versus isolation means, "the readiness to repudiate, isolate, and if necessary, destroy those forces and people whose essence seems dangerous to one's own", meaning sense of identity usually will fear a committed relationship and may retreat into isolation.
