Who is the person bringing accusations against another in a civil case?

    In civil cases, the person bringing suit is the claimant. Similar to the defendant in a criminal trial, the respondent then has the opportunity to be heard in court. In the case of civil jury trial, the judge and jurt may find for or against the parties based on a preponderance of the evidence accepted by the court.
