    The two primary features of Linehan's diathesis-stress theory of borderline personality disorder are dysregulation and invalidation.

    When these two factors combine, i. e. emotional dysregulation and invalidation, they evolve into what is known as the borderline personality in Linehan's Diathesis-Stress Theory. Borderline personality is a personality disorder wherein a person has erratic emotions, among other characteristics.
